I missed 4 days of work this past week, but it wasn't really related to my pregnancy. I had contracted a TERRIBLE sinus infection from all the germs those cute little kids spread around in my classroom. I had been trying to just weather through, only taking Tylenol when I had a fever. It got to the point where I just couldn't function anymore. I called my doctor and she gave me some pregnancy-safe antibiotics to take. I'm happy to say I'm taking my last dose with dinner tonight.
On top of being in a lot of pain from the infection, I became incredibly nauseous on Tuesday morning. I had a difficult time keeping anything down for 2 days. I still haven't decided if this was morning sickness, if I had a touch of the flu (Sam wasn't feeling too well either...), or if it the side effects of the sinus meds were kicking in. Who knows. Maybe it was a combination of all three. All I know is that I was miserable.
I'm finally starting to feel a little more like myself, but I'm not quite back to normal yet. I still can't taste or smell very many things, I'm still getting sinus headaches, and, even though I'm able to keep food down, I just don't have much of an appetite and my stomach feels a little uneasy from time to time.
The last bit of bad news is that I'm suddenly finding it very difficult to sleep. Never in my life have I been a back sleeper, but now that it isn't a good idea for me to do that for prolonged periods of time, I want nothing more. I usually sleep on my stomach and I'm still early on enough in my pregnancy that it isn't too uncomfortable, except when I'm feeling nauseous. I despise sleeping on my side, but I better get used to it. I've found that using Sam as a life-size body pillow really helps! :) Luckily, he's very sweet about it and doesn't seem to care.
There is quite a bit of good news from this week, believe it or not. I had two doctors appointments that both went very well. I had my follow-up ultrasound on Tuesday and we got to see our baby's heartbeat and get several pictures of him/her.
I had my intake appointment on Thursday with the nurse. Thankfully, Sam and I are both healthy people with pretty healthy families which creates a great outlook for the future of our little one. My doctor gave me a big bag of goodies with a ton of reading material in it, (including a book we had just ordered off of Amazon...), an anti-nausea lollipop, tylenol, a bunch of lotions and some body wash, and some Zotz, which are a candy that fizz in the middle. They're supposed to soothe your stomach if you're feeling upset. They taste good too! I also got a "Stork Parking" sign to hang in my car when I go in for appointments so I can get a great parking spot.
It was such a wonderful thing to get to experience all of these first-time things this week. Especially having the love of my life and best friend by my side at the whole time. He gets so excited during ultrasounds and I love it! He even teared up a little when he saw our baby's heartbeat for the first time. He's going to be such a great daddy! All the appointments this week are helping it to feel like this is real and that we are going to be bringing a baby home soon!
Oh! Last bit of news: I am officially due May 18. Sam will get a birthday baby! (His birthday is May 30).
Let me know if you need anything Kasi! Are you two planning on knowing the babies gender before birth? I just packed up a TON of 0-3 month baby boy clothes! Also, I have a box of maternity clothes that are yours if you want them.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet! Yes, we are planning to find out the baby's gender. We should know right around Christmas time. Also, I would love to have those maternity clothes! I have 4 or 5 things, but that's about it so far. So, they would come in really handy if you're okay with loaning them out :)
